Karl blossfeldt
Karl Blossfeldt was a German artist, sculpture, photographer and teacher who worked in Berlin. He was best known for his extreme close up photographs of plants, flowers and shells, they were published in 1929 as "rformen der Kunst".
He was born on the 13th of June 1865 and he died on the 9th of December 1932, while he was alive he managed to amass an archive of close up photographs that he would use whilst teaching.
As a sculpting teacher Blossfeldt had to create innovative ways of giving his pupils subjects to sculpt, if he gave them plants they would either die before the work has finished or they would move into a different position. Blossfeldt decided to build a camera from scratch, with this camera he was able to take extremely detailed pictures of the subjects that his students would sculpt, the idea being that the photo wouldn't change ever. It wasnt utill 1928 that his work was brought to public attention after an article wrote about them.
Now he is thought of as one of the best photographers in his field.
